Why an in-house laboratory matters

When it comes to your pet’s health, timely answers can make all the difference. That’s why having an in-house laboratory right here in our clinic is such an important part of the care we provide.

Our on-site lab allows us to run a wide range of tests without sending samples away. This includes blood and urine testing, cytology and more. Because these tests are done in-clinic, results are often available within minutes, not days. External labs can take from 24-72 hours.

That speed really matters. In emergency situations, such as toxic ingestion, sudden collapse or serious injury, fast results help our vets make informed decisions and begin targeted, potentially life-saving treatment straight away. It can also be critical before anaesthesia, allowing us to identify any underlying issues and reduce risk before your pet goes under.

In-house testing allows us to perform blood work and other diagnostics quickly and efficiently.

An in-house lab is just as valuable for ongoing care. It helps us monitor chronic conditions, adjust medications safely, and keep an eye on how well treatments are being tolerated. For senior pets, preventative screening can be done quickly and conveniently, helping us pick up early signs of disease before symptoms become obvious.

With specialised tools like refractometers, urinalysis helps reveal important clues about your pet's overall health.

There are practical benefits too. Testing on site reduces the need for courier fees, lowers the risk of samples spoiling in transit, and often means fewer follow-up visits – which is especially helpful for anxious or nervous pets.

Our in-house laboratory is a key part of the care we provide. They help us deliver faster answers, more personalised treatment, and a calmer, less stressful experience for our furry friends and their humans.
